Knitting My First Sweater

Class Overview

The class will focus on knitting the Easy Eyelet Yoke Sweater, using an Aran weight yarn. During class time, you will:

• Discuss sweater structure and sweater knitting techniques.
• Learn how to knit a sweater that fits perfectly.

Please note that significant home knitting will be required. This class is designed for Advanced Beginners who have completed several accessory pieces (such as hats, cowls, mittens, and scarves) and are ready to take on garment knitting.

Class Schedule & Cost

• Dates: Fridays: 10/23, 10/30, 11/6, 11/13, 11/20
• Time: 1:30 - 3:00 pm
• Cost: $75.00 for 5 sessions

Yarn Information

Lost Art Yarn Shoppe will provide guidance on yarn selection and estimated quantities. Estimates include an extra ball, which can be returned if unused. They can help you choose the best yarn for your experience level.

Note: Yarn must be purchased prior to the first class, and pre-class homework must be completed. Please bring all required tools with you.

Previous Skills Required

To ensure success, the following skills are required as new techniques will be taught during the class:

• Ability to understand and follow a pattern independently.
• Long Tail Cast On.
• Knit and Purl with consistently sized stitches.
• Confidently knit in the round.
• Recognize and correct mistakes.
• Increases: M1 and YO.
• Decreases: K2tog and SSK.

Tools Needed

• Circular Needles: US 8, 9, or 10 in 16", 24", and 32" lengths (size depends on your knitting swatch outcome; interchangeable circulars are recommended).
• Double-pointed needles in the size used for your sweater.
• Stitch markers, including a BOR (Beginning of Round) marker.
• Scissors.
• Sharp needle for weaving ends.
• Stitch fixer or crochet hook.
• Smooth scrap yarn for holding stitches or silicone cords.
• Stitch gauge.
• Needle stoppers.
